West Angeles Community Development Corporation (WACDC) offered young men of South Los Angeles the opportunity to converse with leading industry professionals at the Manhood 101: Investing in Success program.

The entrepreneurial boot camp was held on February 22 at the West Angeles Villas, 6030 Crenshaw Boulevard in Los Angeles. The Gas Company-Sempra Utilities partnered with WACDC to present the program for young people.

WACDC is a leading faith-based nonprofit that aims to be a leading catalyst for revitalization and stabilization of communities in South Los Angeles, beginning in the Crenshaw District.

“The economic vitality of our community rests within the creativity, ingenuity, and tenacity of our youth's ability to be successful entrepreneurs and we are called to give them the tools for success on every front,” said Tunua Thrash-Ntuk, WACDC executive director.

“Our youth are seldom exposed to entrepreneurship.  Conversations like ‘Investing in Success’ provided our young men the opportunity to be inspired to develop their ideas into viable businesses.”

Sheila P. Coates, personal branding expert and owner of BYOB (Be Your Own Brand!), and Rashaun Williams, financial investor and founder of The Kemet Institute, led workshops on financial literacy, personal and business branding, and business plan development.

Charlie Fyffe, a recipient of the 100 Urban Entrepreneurs grant and owner of Charlie’s Brownies, discussed his success in business as a young entrepreneur and shared information with the attendees of the Manhood 101 program.
