A holiday gift of groceries and health screenings will be offered to those less fortunate by Christ Our Redeemer (COR) A.M.E. Church in collaboration with Templo Calvario, Loaves and Fishes x 10, and Children's Hunger Fund.
The giveaway is set for Saturday, December 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at COR Church located at 46 Maxwell Street in Irvine.
"In these difficult times, we want to reach out to aid the needy by uniting with other organizations to provide tangible assistance to the first 400 people who attend the event," said Pastor Mark E. Whitlock II.
"Those individuals will receive a wrist band to allow them to receive an allotment of non-perishable food. All we are asking is that you bring your own bag."
In addition, the 100 Black Men of Orange County will sponsor on-site medical professionals to give free screenings for blood pressure and diabetes.
"Plus, we will have an ‘Ask the Doctor' section with medical doctors on hand, so you will have an opportunity to ask questions directly to them regarding preventive care for you or a loved one," added Pastor Whitlock.
Edward Thomas, director of the COR Community Development Corporation, oversees the food distribution program. For more information, call him at (949) 955-0014, extension 204.
