‘Unity of Family' will be the focus of an inter-generational workshop and worship service on Saturday, December 10, and Sunday, December 11.

The events are held in recognition of the 115th church anniversary of Primm Tabernacle A.M.E. Church of Pomona, the oldest African American church in the Inland Empire.

"We invite the entire Southern California community to join us in this celebration of the family. Dr. Gloria Morrow and the Rev. Dr. Cecil ‘Chip' Murray will be the keynote speakers at the activities held in our edifice located at 1938 South Towne Avenue in Pomona," said Pastor Alvin Smith.

Dr. Morrow will facilitate the free workshop on Saturday at 10 a.m., entitled ‘Strengthening the Ties that Bind.' The inter-generational session will feature marriage and family relationship discussions.

One of the nation's leading clinical psychologists, Dr. Morrow is renowned for her expertise on depression, anxiety, marriage and relationship issues, and other concerns relative to people of all ethnic backgrounds. Also, she is often featured in the print and electronic media and is the author of several books.

Dr. Murray will be the guest preacher during the Unity of Family worship service on Sunday. A former pastor of Primm Tabernacle, Rev. Murray served 27 years as pastor of First A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles, an 18,000+ congregation, before retiring in 2004.

In 2005, Rev. Murray joined the University of Southern California and became the holder of the John R. Tansey Chair at the Center for Religion and Civic Culture at U.S.C.

Rev. Murray holds a doctorate from Claremont School of Theology and is widely considered a senior statesman in the local and national African American communities.

The 115th Anniversary Celebration will culminate with a reception honoring the ‘Trailblazers of the Tabernacle,' present and former members of Primm.
