The Board of Equalization’s free Food Industry Seminar in Hermosa Beach was a huge success

California State Board of Equalization Chairman Jerome E. Horton conducted a Food Industry Seminar in the Hermosa Beach Community Center, in downtown Hermosa Beach, CA on Tuesday, April 1. The Board of Equalization is charged with the administration of more than $55 billion annually in business taxes and other fees.

“The primary purpose of the Hermosa Beach Food Industry Seminar was to provide restaurant and bar owners, mobile food truck operators, private caterers, and others in the food service industry information about tax credits, refunds, business loan assistance, and other information to help grow their businesses,”  said Horton.

Nearly 200 business owners registered for the free, one-day seminar that was promoted by the Board of Equalization, the Chamber of Commerce, the City of Hermosa Beach, and the Los Angeles Chapter of the California Restaurant Association. Recognizing that one-third of all California restaurants are located in Los Angeles County, Chairman Horton wanted to ensure that the Board of Equalization did its part to inform and educate restaurant and other food service operators.

Donald and Leanna Maynard are the owners of “D & L’s Barbecue and More,” a Los Angeles-based, mobile barbecue and catering business. “Our part-time business operation is growing moderately,” said Donald Maynard. “We came to the seminar to make sure we are on the right track, and in compliance with applicable rules and laws.”

Horton and his team have conducted dozens of small business seminars throughout the 4th District, which includes most of Los Angeles County. The next small business seminar will be held on Tuesday, April 8 at the South Gate Educational Center in South Gate, on Wednesday, May 6 at the Pacific Community Center in Glendale, and on May 14, at the  Stanley Plummer Community Center in San Dimas, California.
