Rev. Alvin Tunstill Jr. and Homeless Activist Brian Ferguson
By Cora Jackson-FossettSentinel Religion Editor
The Homeless Ministry of Trinity Baptist Church will hold their 5th Annual Blanket Drive on Saturday, December 17. Contributions will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., in the church's garage parking lot at 2040 West Jefferson Boulevard in Los Angeles.
"Our theme is ‘Love One Another' and we invite people throughout greater Los Angeles to donate to this worthy cause. As in past years, Brother Brian Ferguson is heading up the campaign to obtain full, king or queen blankets for the homeless," said Pastor Alvin Tunstill, Jr.
"During this time of year, the weather turns cold, so we truly need your help. I am praying that people will unite with us to aid homeless men, women and children with the gift of warmth this holiday season," added Ferguson, who has been helping the homeless for 15 years.
In support of his ministry, Ferguson has run in more than 50 marathons with all proceeds going to the homeless. He also participates in foot washing and pedicures for the homeless, meals for the homeless, and toiletries and grooming for the homeless.
This year, Ferguson has raised over $13,000 and he said, "There are over 80,000 homeless people in Los Angeles, so $13,000 is a start."
