Lifetime Presents Baps and Bring It for Summer Premiere

BAPspulls back the curtain on an exclusive, privileged and affluent group of African American friends from St. Louis who self-identify as BAPs, Black American Princesses and Princes. BAPs follows these lifelong friends who are edgy, educated and sophisticated, and believe being a BAP in today’s world is birthright. Each hour-long episode delves into the lives and lifestyle of this well-heeled circle of friends. Dressed to the nines with egos to spare, there is no shortage of conflict, humor and heart among the group that includes Anisha, Kristen, Gina, Jason, Riccarda and Brandon. With a dynamic that can change from BFFs to frenemies at the drop of a hat, together they attend St. Louis’ most exclusive social institutions and events… but no occasion is conflict-free. Competing to be the most successful and beautiful person in their circle is sure to bind and divide them, especially when Anisha’s boyfriend Kendrick and his niece Rai-Rai represent everything BAPs is not. See the royal drama unfold July 23 at 10pm.   As the drama comes to a head on BAPs, the competition heats up on Lifetime as Coach Dianna Williams (“Miss D”) and her Dancing Dolls are back and ready to battle even harder on the dance floor for Bring It airing July 23 at 9pm.

Nick Cannon’s new film School Dance

Music and media entrepreneur Nick Cannon directed and scripted new project School Dance, Cannon who starred in high school film, Love Don’t Cost a Thing with Christina Milan has produced his own teenage flick released July 2nd where High schooler Jason (Bobb’e J Thompson) has found his dream girl-the gorgeous Anastacia (Kristinia DeBarge). There's just one problem: she doesn't know he exists. If he can win a spot on the school's hottest dance crew, Jason might have a shot. But before he does, he'll have to overcome his battle-ax of a mother, survive Anastacia's gangsta brother, and pass the crew's initiation-in this fresh, sexy, and outrageously funny comedy. Starring in the film alongside Thompson and DeBarge is Katt Williams, George Lopez, Mike Epps, Wilmer Valderrama and Amber Rose.

The Envelope Please: Four Standout Actresses Lead Emmy Nods

Actress Uzo Aduba known as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren on Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black is nominated for an Emmy for Guest Actress in a Comedy series. Fellow co-star Laverne Cox joins Aduba in Emmy nod category. The series is in the running for 12 nominations. Scandal star Kerry Washington is a contender for her second Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Cicley Tyson is nominated in the Lead Actress Mini-Seriesof a Movie Category The Trip to Bountiful. Keke Palmer starred in the nominated film as Thelma debuted her new talk show Just KeKe June 30. When she is not on set of her talk show, she can be seen on Showtime’s Masters of Sex as Coral, a nanny to the Master’s new born. The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards airs live on NBC August 25. 

 

Emayatzy Corinealdi to Replace Zoe Saldana in Don Cheadle‘s Miles Davis biopic Miles Ahead

Currently in pre-production, the Miles Ahead biopic has found its replacement for Zoe Saldana, the indie-actress Emayatzy Corinealdi, best known for her breakout role in Middle of Nowhere, is in negotiations to play the jazz legend’s wife Frances Taylor in Miles Ahead, reports Deadline.com. Due to conflicting projects, Saldana will pass on the film leaving Corinealdi to take on the role. Spearheaded by Don Cheadle, the film is underway, according to examiner.com this past 4th of  July “ Don Cheadle is closing in on his $325,000 goal to help fund his Miles Davis biopic with about a week left to go in his campaign. The House of Lies and Iron Man star who kicked off his Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign back on June 3 has now raised over a $210,000 for the project titled Miles Ahead. According to Cheadle’s Indiegogo page he has been developing the film since 2008.

Terrence Howard and Jennifer Hudson in Lullaby, DVD available July 29

Written and directed by Andrew Levitas follows a man who’s estranged from his family receives word that his father has chosen to take himself off life support within 48 hours. Lullaby stars Terrence Howard along with American Hustle Amy Adams, Downton Abbey’s Jessica Brown Findlay, Jessica Barden and Academy Award Winner Jennifer Hudson. Lullaby will be available on DVD on July 29.
