The Department of Women of the Southwest Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of California of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) will open their 54th Annual Women’s Convention on Monday, August 11, and continuing through Friday, August 15, at New Jerusalem COGIC, 420 South Santa Fe Avenue in Compton.
Bishop Hillrie Murphy is the jurisdictional prelate, and Mother Joan Walker is the jurisdictional supervisor and convention president. The theme is ‘We Are Called to Minister to a Distressed and Troubled World,’ and the focus theme is ‘In the Power of Unity We Say, Yes Lord.’
“Everyone is invited to attend this great and anointed convention. We are expecting the presence of the Lord to be with us at every service and that the lives of God’s people will be impacted by His presence,” said Mother Walker.
Activities kick-off on Monday at 7:30 p.m., with the pre-convention musical directed by Brother Jamiel Lewis. The convention officially opens on Tuesday with Morning Glory Prayer for better homes, better schools, better communities and a better world. Each night, the Institute Hour will be held at 6:30 p.m., and worship services begin at 8 p.m.
On Tuesday, at 11 a.m., District Missionary Lula Clark will coordinate the Annual Leadership Conference. At 8 p.m., Evangelist Shirley Boyd will preach.
Wednesday’s highlights include the Banner Parade and Good Shepherd night. Evangelist Mary D. Jones will speak.
The Thursday morning service will feature a symposium and workshops as well as the sermon by Mother Donnie Burnett. Also, Mother Walker will deliver her official address on Thursday night.
The President’s Banquet honoring Mother Walker is on Friday at 11 a.m., at the Proud Bird Restaurant, 11022 Aviation Boulevard in Los Angeles. Bishop Murphy will bring the message on Friday night.
