Media mogul Steve Harvey partners with Strayer University, a leading postsecondary institution for working adults. The TV host joins the University in a new initiative aimed at breaking down perceived barriers that can keep individuals from succeeding in their personal and professional lives. Dubbed ‘The Success Project,’ the partnership kicks off a year of national and local activities, which will raise awareness of multiple definitions of and paths to success, and enhance support for working adults pursuing a college degree through success coaching, among others. “Education is a key to success for many,” said Harvey, whose new book on the principles of setting and reaching high goals, Act Like a Success, Think Like a Success will be released in September.
KeKe Palmer makes history as Broadway’s 1st Black Cinderella
Staying on top, the trailblazer KeKe Palmer will play the title role in “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella” at the Broadway Theatre, beginning Sept. 9, reports the Associated Press. She will become the first African-American to play the part on the Great White Way. “It’s honestly one of those things that I can’t believe is really happening,” Palmer told the AP by phone Friday from her Los Angeles home. “I’m very excited. Very excited and nervous as well, a bunch of feelings all at once,” reports eurweb.com. This is Palmer’s second historical announcement as earlier this year she became the youngest person to host a day time talk show at the youthful age of 20. The new endeavor, Just Keke airs on BET daily.
DeVon Franklin lands First-Look Producing Deal with Sony
DeVon Franklin obtains new production deal with Sony pictures. As senior vice president of Production for Columbia Pictures, he has garnered a long- term, first-look producing deal with the studio. Franklin oversaw Heaven is For Real, buying the book for the studio, supervising production, and actively participating in the marketing and publicity effort. In his new role, Franklin will join Joe Roth and T.D. Jakes as a producer on Heaven Changes Everything, the sequel to the film. “Sony has been my home for nearly a decade, becoming a producer has always been a career goal and I deeply appreciate Michael, Amy and Doug allowing me this amazing opportunity to do so at SPE. Jada Pinkett Smith Stars in Fox’s Batman prequel Gotham

Actor Harry Lennix Launches Production Company
Actor Harry Lennix has been churning out films through his new production company. “I decided that I needed to take control,” the Chicago native told Variety of Exponent Media Group, his company with longtime associate Steve Harris. So far they’ve completed three films. Lennix starred in and financed, “H4,” a street version of William Shakespeare’s “Henry IV;” “Mr. Sophistication,” and “Revival.” Lennix acknowledges that he’s been able to work regularly in movies TV and stage over the last three decades with credits including movie roles in “Ray,” and “The Matrix: Reloaded.” He also believes that it’s not enough. “I would love to just keep acting but I’m forced to make business for myself,” he added. “And because of the improvements in production equipment, costs have gone down. I just wish I’d thought of this 20 years ago.”
