On August 24, Ward African Methodist Episcopal Church, 1177 West 25th Street in Los Angeles, will celebrate its 112th Anniversary with two outstanding worship services at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The 10 a.m. worship will feature Ward's senior pastor, the Rev. Taurus Myhand., a graduate of the Interdenominational Theological Center and Turner Theological Seminary in Atlanta, GA. with a Masters of Divinity. He also holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Troy University in Troy, AL., and is currently working on his Doctorate.

Rev. Myhand is a renowned, powerful and highly sought preacher and speaker. He was a keynote speaker at the 89th Session of the Southern California Annual Conference last year. Pastor Myhand and Ward A.M.E. will host of the 90th Session of the Southern California Annual Conference and 5th District Planning Meeting in October.

At the 3 p.m. service, the Rev.  Mark Whitlock will preach, the heralded pastor of one of the fastest growing churches in Southern California, Christ Our Redeemer A.M.E. in Orange County.

The holder of an honorary Doctorate in Humanities from American International University, the Rev. Whitlock has a bachelor of arts in Religion from the University of Laverne and is currently completing his Master’s of Divinity degree at Payne Theological Seminary in Wilberforce, Ohio. 

He is the founder and former executive director of F.A.M.E. Renaissance, the economic development arm of First A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles. He also co-founded the Richard Allen Men's Society (RAMS) a 3,500 strong community action organization and is a board member of Harvard Divinity Summer School Leadership.

Ward will compile an Anniversary Mass Choir to commemorate the occasion.  All former choir members are invited to participate. Recognition will be given to the family with the most members in attendance, Stewards and Trustees Emeritus, Stewardesses and Deaconesses, as well as announcement of the award of the Member of the Year.
