Carson City Councilmember Mike Gipson Announces Key Endorsements In Campaign for Assembly District 64

CARSON, CA– Local Carson City Councilmember Mike Gipson has picked up major endorsements of two South Bay leaders in his campaign for the newly redrawn 64th Assembly District: Assembly members Isadore Hall and Warren Furutani.

“I am honored to have the support of two outstanding leaders,” said Carson City Councilmember Mike Gipson.  “Assembly members Hall and Furutani know and trust my record of working to improve our schools, protect vital services like public safety, create opportunities for youth and strengthen our economy.  I am honored to have their support.”

The endorsements are a major boost to Gipson’s campaign.  Together, Hall and Furutani represent significant portions of the newly drawn 64th Assembly district.  The endorsements position Gipson as the clear favorite early on in the election season.

Both Hall and Furutani currently reside in the newly redrawn 64th, however Hall is running for the new 44th Congressional district and Furutani is pursuing a seat on the Los Angeles City Council.

Gipson was elected to the Carson City Council in 2005 and re-elected in 2009.  Gipson has a long record of service to the communities of the 64th Assembly district.  In addition to his work as a local City Councilmember, he also serves as Vice President of the Advisory Board for the State Public Utilities Commission. A champion for working families, Gipson has previously worked as an organizer for United Teachers of Los Angeles and held various leadership positions with SEIU Local 399, SEIU Local 99 and served as statewide political director for Justice for Janitors SEIU Local 1877.

The newly drawn 64th Assembly District is one of the most heavily Democratic districts in California.  President Obama carried the district with 85% of the vote in 2008.  The district includes the cities of Carson and Compton as well as portions of Los Angeles, Long Beach and unincorporated Los Angeles County.
