LOS ANGELES (September 23, 2011) – Assemblyman Isadore Hall (D-Compton) joined over 300 invited guests to honor the four recipients of The Dreamland Foundations Inc.,   First  Music Box Awards at the USC Fisher Museum this past weekend.

The Music Box Awards were created to raise money to help keep art programs in schools, as well as honor individuals of the arts and education community.

Los Angeles Commissioner of Arts Mattie McFadden-Lawson received the “Service Above Self” award for her work fostering philanthropic partnerships benefiting youth; Morningside High School Assistant Principal Joyce Rushing received the “Beacon Award” for  her continued efforts to develop partnerships with donors, colleges and other programs to help those transitioning from home to college life; Daphna Edwards Ziman, founder of Children Uniting Nations, got the “Hero’s Award” for her work with foster youth; and GiGi Bolden received the “Angels Award” for inspiring youth to pursue their passion as the artistic director of the Amazing Grace Conservatory (AGC), a Los Angeles theatrical academy.

Abraham McDonald, Def Jam artist and winner of Oprah Winfrey’s first Karoake Challenge, headlined the September 23,  ceremony.

Assemblyman Hall praised McDonald, who is also the Founder and Chairman of The Dreamland Foundation Inc., for his vision to ensure that all students have an opportunity to benefit from the arts in the Los Angeles community.
