The Department of Women of the Southwest Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of California will host their 53rd Annual Women Convention starting Wednesday, September 14, to Friday, September 16, at 88th Street Temple Church of God in Christ, 8825 South Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles.
The theme is ‘Godly Women Focused on God's Agenda For the Church' based on Luke 4:18 and John 9:4. Bishop B.R. Benbow is the Jurisdictional Prelate, Supervisor Joan Walker is the Convention President and Elder Anthony Williams is the host pastor.
The pre-convention musical, directed by Dr. Iris Stevenson and Evangelist Lillie Smarr, will be on Monday, September 12, at 7:30 p.m., at the 88th Street Temple Church of God in Christ. The convention officially opens on September 14, with Morning Glory Prayer for better homes, better schools, better communities and a better world. At 11 a.m., District Missionary Lula Clark will coordinate the Annual Leadership Conference.
Among the Convention evening highlights are the Institute Hour at 6:30 p.m., and worship services at 8 p.m. Supervisor Joan Walker will deliver her official address on September 15, and Bishop Benbow will deliver the gospel message on September 16. Both will appear at the 8 p.m. services.
Also, the President's Banquet honoring Supervisor Walker is September 16, at 11 a.m., at the Proud Bird Restaurant, 11022 Aviation Boulevard in Los Angeles.
