New Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church (NMC) has been a pillar of hope and an advocate for social justice in the South Los Angeles community for over 49 years.
Guided by its mission "to reach persons beyond our walls, nurture them to mature disciples, equip them for witnessing and winning the lost through love that we may all be joined together with Christ serving this present age" and its core foundational principles of Ministry, Evangelism, Discipleship, Worship, and Fellowship, the Church has successfully developed diverse in-reach and outreach programs to meet the needs of the Body of Christ.
Understanding that transformation occurs beyond the walls, New Mount Calvary, under the leadership of Pastor Sonja R. Dawson, has dedicated the month of August to evangelism. With great expectations, the journey began August 6, at 12:00 noon with the monthly feeding program. Every first Saturday of the month, the Feeding Ministry provides free meals to over 250 families.
Also, every Monday at 7 p.m., the community at-large is invited to experience the Triumphant Ministries program. This ministry is designed to address and assist individuals, families and communities in their recovery efforts. In addition, the mobile Operation S.T.I.T.C.H.E.S. (Saving the Inner City through Christ, Hope, and Eternal Salvation) program will be on the move at Earvin ‘Magic' Johnson Park, every Thursday at 3 p.m., to bring the love of God and learning to children throughout the community.
On August 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the New Mount Calvary Church family will reach back to say ‘thank you' by hosting a ‘Community Summer Blast And Block Party' at the NMC Recreation Park.
According to Pastor Dawson, "This event was created to nurture, created to connect, and created to inspire our community as well as our congregants. It is our hope that this event will launch new evangelistic connections and efforts. So, please join us as everyone is invited for free food, fun, fellowship, games, and activities for all ages."
In preparation for these exciting events and opportunities for spiritual growth, Pastor Dawson will deliver a five-week sermon series entitled, ‘The Church on Mission for God' to encourage the hearts, minds, and spirits of those seeking to make an impact on their communities and the world.
"Please be our guest for morning worship services at 7:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. (Sunday School), and 10:45 a.m. And, as we go beyond the walls to bear witness to individuals, families, and communities, we diligently seek your support and solicit your prayers," she said.
