Boxer Statement on Agreement to End FAA Shutdown and Put 74,000 Americans Back to Work
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) today made the following statement after an agreement was announced to end the partial shutdown of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and put thousands of Americans back to work:
“I am greatly relieved that the FAA stalemate has been resolved and that 74,000 workers and hundreds of businesses can go back to work improving safety at our nation’s airports.
“California airports were hurt by this partial shutdown, with many safety projects delayed or halted, so I want to thank the Obama Administration for working with Senate Democratic leaders to end the impasse.
“This agreement only lasts through September 16 so I urge Speaker Boehner to quickly name conferees – as the Senate did more than 100 days ago – so we can resolve these issues in a conference committee.”
