Now, a year has passed and the African American Unity Center, Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, the EXPO Center, and other community partners are once again joining forces with the Brotherhood Crusade and several NBA retired players in hosting the 7th Annual Brotherhood Crusade Jim Cleamons Books and Basketball Camp. This year, the camp will take place the week of August 8-12, 2011 at the EXPO Center located at 3980 Bill Robertson Lane (formerly Menlo Avenue), Los Angeles, California 90037.Youth interested in enrolling and participating in the 2011 Books and Basketball Camp must contact Ms. Maybelline SaintJulian at (323) 846-1649 and complete an application prior to August 3, 2011. The Books and Basketball Camp is a life-changing event that provides 100 9-15 year old youth with an opportunity to engage in a dream experience that teaches fascinating principles of math and science, financial education, social and personal life skills development, health and nutrition, chess, etiquette, and of course, basketball. Each year the camp is honored to have an incredible line-up of keynote speakers and guests in addition to its cadre of former NBA players. These guests have included recording artist and actor Romeo, Trevor Ariza, Laker legend A.C. Green, Master P., Three-Point Contest record holder Craig Hodges, actor Brian White, actress Wendy Racquel Robinson, actor and producer William Allen Young, Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas, Councilman Bernard Parks, Senator Rod Wright, Councilwoman Jan Perry, NFL's Fastest Man Ron Brown, Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Lynette Woodard and USC Hall of Fame inductee Sam "Bam" Cunningham.
