On July 9, the Grand at Long Beach was transformed, by the presence of the Holy Spirit, from an event center into a house of worship and praise with the 6th Annual Sisters in Ministry (SIM) Prayer Breakfast and Torch Awards.
Each year, women of varying ages, ethnicities, walks of life, and denominations, gather together in a spirit of unity and peace to edify the Body Christ, intercede for one another through prayer and fellowship, and recognize mighty women of God who have served as trailblazers for women in ministry.
This year's theme was ‘Breakthrough Prayer' from Acts 12. With great enthusiasm and zeal, over 300 people were in attendance to celebrate and honor the following women of excellence: Apostle Beverly "BAM" Crawford, D.D., senior pastor and founder of Bible Enrichment Fellowship International Church; Dr. Wanda A. Davis of Dr. Wanda A. Davis Ministries; Minister Terri McFaddin-Solomon of Women's Discipleship Group; Pastor T. Marvene Wright of The Word Center Church; and Rev. Doris C. Carrington of Friendship Baptist Church.
Also, SIM was led into a new level of worship with the mistress of ceremony, Rev. Shirley LaCour; and songs of praise from Minister Anita Birt, the SIM Praise Team, and Sis. Nikki Potts, as well as prayers of intercession by Evangelist Franchesca White, Evangelist Diane Robinson, and Minister Gloria Winfree. Indeed, all participants truly experienced an awesome time in the Lord.
As an inter-denominational fellowship for women in ministry, SIM is the vision of Rev. Sonja R. Dawson, Esq., founder and CEO of SIM and pastor of New Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Birthed from the need to strengthen women in ministry and promote excellence in service, SIM has grown from an organization of seven to several hundred in its eight-year history.
SIM offers several programs of involvement which include the SIM Prayer Breakfast and Torch Awards; the Sisters Perfecting Sisters Conference, an annual conference where sisters in ministry come together for praise, prayer, worship, and divine instruction for spiritual direction; Sisters Circle, a financial support group of SIM; Healthy Sisters, Healthy Lives, a faith-based community collaborative with BLU Educational Foundation designed to empower, enlighten, and encourage young women on women's health issues and preventive diseases; a 4th Monday Worship service at Union Rescue Mission, and the Annual Street Revival at Union Rescue Mission which is scheduled for October 1, 2011.
