U.S. Rep. Karen Bass Statement on the 45th Anniversary of Medicare's Implementation

Washington, DC--U.S. Rep. Karen Bass released the following statement today marking the 45th anniversary of Medicare's implementation. The statement follows: "One of the proudest achievements in the history of the Democratic Party is the creation of Medicare. Forty-five years ago, our society made a pledge, an unbreakable promise to provide our seniors with the economic and health security they deserve. "Today, Republicans are promoting a mean spirited agenda that ends Medicare, reduces benefits, and raises seniors' health care costs by putting insurance companies in charge. Democrats remain champions of Medicare. We will not allow our nation's seniors to return to a life where their dignity is jeopardized because Medicare benefits are cut. Democrats will always fight to preserve and strengthen Medicare for future generations of Americans."

Karen Bass represents the 33rd congressional district, which includes Los Angeles, Hollywood, and Culver City and was the 67th Speaker of the California Assembly.
