Rev. Peter Watts
Park Hills Community Church, Reformed Church in America, will celebrate their 4th Annual Men's Day on Sunday, June 26, at 11 a. m., at 5247 Overdale Drive in Los Angeles. The theme is ‘The Steps of a Good Man are Ordered by the Lord,' based on Psalms 37:23.
The Rev. Dr. Richard Lamar Horton, pastor; Charles Balls, Men's Fellowship president; and Perry V. Hayes, director of music, cordially invite the community to the special worship. Men and musicians from The R.O.C.K. Church will participate and a reception will follow the service.
The pulpit guest will be Rev. Peter Watts who has been shepherding and leading The R.O.C.K Church for the past three years. The growing and vibrant congregation worships in the Park Hills Fellowship Hall on Sundays at 9:30 a.m.
Rev. Watts is a native of Southern California and graduated from California State University, Dominguez Hills, with a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications, with an emphasis on television and film. After a short period in print journalism and radio broadcasting, Rev. Watts changed his career to education in 1997 and earned his master's degree in Education and Administration from the University of Phoenix.
He started as a classroom teacher in Los Angeles Unified School District. In 2001, he moved to View Park Elementary School and taught 3rd grade for seven years. In 2007, he opened Thurgood Marshall Entrepreneurial Academy Charter Middle School where he currently serves as principal.
While working as a teacher and volunteering in youth ministry, Rev. Watts received his calling to preach the gospel in 2000 and was ordained four years later by Holy Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Compton. In 2007, Pastor Watts felt God speak to him and call him to plant a church in Carson. Heeding the call, he and his wife, Didi, gathered for a year in their living room with 25 to 30 Christians, exploring the possibility of starting a multi-ethnic family church within the city.
They launched their church in the fall of 2008 under the auspices of the Reformed Church in America (RCA) as a church plant, Revolution-Carson. After moving the ministry to Los Angeles, the name was changed to The R.O.C.K. Church, which stands for ‘Reaching Out Christ's Kingdom.'
The church is now a vital member of the Classis of California, RCA, where Pastor Watts completed the denomination's Commissioned Pastor training program. On several occasions, his church has joined with the Park Hills congregation for very successful events such as Vacation Bible School and special worship services.
Pastor and Mrs. Watts have been married for 17 years and they have three children.
