Dr. James Key
Dr. James Key

Dr. James Key, a U.S. Army Chaplain (Major) and frequent USA Today columnist, will be the guest speaker on Sunday, June 19, at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., at Bryant Temple A.M.E. Church, located at 2525 West Vernon Avenue in Los Angeles.

According to Pastor Clyde W. Oden, "Dr. Key will share reflections from his book, ‘Touch and Go: From the Streets of South Central Los Angeles to the War in Iraq' and you will be inspired and uplifted to hear of the dynamic involvement of God in everyday life. We encourage the entire community to attend."

‘Touch and Go' combines the qualities of a biography and a religious/inspirational book. Revealing how God continually moved with him, Key's story covers his days of growing up in the Crenshaw District of Los Angeles to serving on the battlefield as a United States Army chaplain in war-torn Iraq.

"I have long been inspired by biblical stories and the way God has touched my life, as well as empowered by the lives of others. Not just famous people, but ordinary folks whose names and faces are unknown," said Key.

"Some of their stories were of terrible tragedies while others have been wonderful examples of human triumph and victory. These people and their remarkable experiences left an indelible mark on my soul and compelled me to review and write the stories of my life in ‘Touch and Go.'

"From the good to the bad to the downright low, readers are reminded that God is always there to bring comfort and direction."

Key attended Dublin Elementary and Audubon Junior High before graduating from Dorsey High School. After completing undergraduate studies at CSU Northridge, he earned his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
