Curren D. Price, Jr., Senator of the 26th district, honored 26 distinguished women at the 5th annual "Tribute to 'Sheroes", held at the Taglyan Cultural Complex in Hollywood.

In the past, Price once held the 'Sheroes' award ceremony honoring 51 local women while he was an assemblyman for the 51st district. Since becoming Senator for the 26th district, Price has continued his annual 'Sheroes' Awards and now honors 26 women who are leaders and a force committed to their work.

The annual 'Sheroes' brunch has proven to be a most deserving honor for these powerful women who are many times overlooked for their valiant efforts everyday on the front line of their respective and chosen fields.

Day in and day out, these courageous 'sheroes' and many others go above and beyond the call of duty for their family and their community. The 'Sheroes' brunch is just one day but a very important day to say, "Hey, we appreciate you."

Participants at the event included Assembly-member Holly J. Mitchell of the 47th district, who greeted the well-dressed Sunday crowd and was very complementary to the 'Sheroes' awardees.

Michaela Pereira, co-anchor for "the KTLA Morning Show", was the mistress of ceremonies and did a wonderful job hosting the afternoon brunch.

Pereira introduced 'Women of Drum,' who opened the ceremony with a soulful rhythmic tune of West African sound that got the juices flowing for the day.

Pereira then introduced Syd Stewart, a nationally acclaimed poet who was joined by a special guest. The two poets delivered a powerful tribute poem to the 'Sheroes' awardees and guests.

Senator Price gave a warm and heartfelt definition of what a 'Shero' meant before awarding each 'Shero' with an official legislative proclamation.

Pereira read a summary of the accomplishments for each of the awardees and Senator Price took an individual picture with each of them. They later posed for a memorable group shot with the Senator.
