The dynamic preaching of Bishop T. Larry Kirkland Sr. and the Rev. Dr. Frank Madison Reid III highlight the three-day revival starting Thursday, May 5, at 7 p.m., at Second A.M.E. Church, 5500 South Hoover Street in Los Angeles.
The event is sponsored by the Los Angeles District of the Southern California Conference of the Fifth Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Church. Bishop Kirkland is the presiding prelate of the Fifth District, Rev. Norman D. Copeland Sr. is presiding elder of the Los Angeles District and Rev. John E. Cager is the host pastor.
"Both Bishop Kirkland and Dr. Reid are internationally known for their powerful, Christ-centered messages that inspire and energize believers to deal with the challenges of daily living. We invite the community-at-large to join us and experience a renewed commitment and excitement in your walk with the Lord," said Elder Copeland.
The revival theme is, "With God, All Things Are Possible - Rebuilding the Walls" using Matthew 19:25 - 26 as the scripture reference. Dr. Reid will be the revivalist on Thursday, May 5 and Friday, May 6 at 7 p.m. Bishop Kirkland will preach on Saturday, May 7, at 12 noon.
Bishop Kirkland, who is also president of the General Board of the A.M.E. Church, has been in the ministry for more than 40 years. The author of several books on church growth, he is often called upon by the media for his expertise in religious matters and his counsel is frequently sought by local and national leaders.
For 20 years, Bishop Kirkland was pastor of Brookins Community A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles where the congregation to 8,000 members and became highly regarded for its socio-political presence in the greater L.A. area. A graduate of Alcorn State University, he received his master's degree from Mississippi State University and attended Claremont School of Theology and California Graduate School of Theology.
Dr. Reid is currently senior pastor of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Baltimore, MD. Renowned as a power speaker and motivator, his 30-year ministry has focused on equipping people to rebuild broken lives and communities. Under Dr. Reid's leadership, "The Bethel Outreach of Love" broadcast airs internationally in Europe on Revelation TV and UC-TV, nationally on The Word Network, and regionally on WB-TV.
He is the 5th generation of his family to become a minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Dr. Reid's previous pastoral appointments include Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church in Charlotte, NC; and Ward A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles. Also, he served as co-pastor of the Historic Eliza Turner A.M.E. Church in Monrovia, Liberia in West Africa while teaching at Monrovia College.
A best-selling author, Dr. Reid earned a B.A. degree from Yale University, master's degree from Harvard Divinity School, and Doctor of Ministry Degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
