‘Christian Women: Devoted, Watchful and Thankful in Prayer - Colossians 4:2,' served as the theme for a prayer breakfast given by the Women's Ministry of Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church (MSMBC), 3669 West 54th Street in Los Angeles, on April 9.
More than 100 women were on hand to hear guest speaker Jackie Rettberg, Executive Director of Network of Evangelical Women in Ministry (NEWIM) deliver her stirring message "The Death of the Shoulds." Rettberg encouraged attendees to walk away from the powerless "shoulds" of their lives, and walk toward Jesus. "When you keep looking at yourself, you will continue to look like yourself," Rettberg cautioned.
Rettberg also had the women write down their lists of "shoulds," and then promptly instructed them to toss them into the trash. Guests exchanged prayer acronyms used to strengthen their Christian walk, such as ASAP-Always Say a Prayer and PUSH-Pray Until Something Happens and participated in small group prayer sessions.
"A women's prayer breakfast is an opportunity to bring together women of faith to encourage one another. With prayer and devotion as the focus, a prayer breakfast also allows the women of Mt. Sinai to celebrate and honor the special bond between women," MSMBC Women's Ministry.
