Left to Right: Bill Duke, Roy Willis, Mike Smith, Percy Pinkney, Robert Rooks

By Allison Arnold & Beata Draga

Record numbers of supporters and friends turned out to celebrate the birthday of Percy Pinkney, influential political figure and State President of the Black American Political Association of California. Attendees included figures from the religious, political, and entertainment communities, many of whom have known Mr. Pinkney since the beginning of his career.

Guests shared food, lively conversation, strawberry shortcake, and memories of Percy. Special guest speakers Reverend Hardwick, Roy Willis, and State Vice President Thomasina Reed took turns honoring Percy's accomplishments and sharing personal anecdotes about the guest of honor. Afterward, Percy took the floor to deliver an emotional and touching speech. Festivities also included recognition of BAPAC Member and entertainment legend Bill Duke, who took time out of his own birthday celebration to join Percy's.

Percy Pinkney is one of the founding members of BAPAC, where he currently serves as State President, and has worked with US Senator Dianne Feinstein for over twenty years. His work has proved essential in numerous political campaigns, including Jerry Brown's recent victorious bid for California State Governor. Percy continues to work each and every day to help many groups, such as veterans and youth.
