Rejoicing and praise reached an all-time high during the 60th Church Anniversary of Walker Temple A.M.E. Church. Pastor Cedric V. Alexander joined with members, friends and other pastors to commemorate the occasion with two special services on February 27.

"By the grace of God, we have been blessed to serve this community for more than half of a century. I am thankful and appreciative to this great congregation who has remained steadfast, unmovable and fully committed to kingdom-building, both within and outside the walls of this church," said Rev. Alexander.

Bishop T. Larry Kirkland, presiding prelate of the 5th Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Church; Mrs. Mary L. Kirkland, Episcopal Supervisor; and Mother Elizabeth Baines, a charter member, also shared in the celebration.

"I want to express my sincere thanks to Walker Temple for keeping alive the dreams and aspirations of the original 50 charter members. Also, I want to commend the pastoral leadership of Rev. Alexander and pray that the congregation will continue to give him your love and support," said Bishop Kirkland.

Guests included Rev. Dr. Vernon S. Burroughs, pastor of Grant A.M.E. Church; Rev. John Cager, pastor of Second A.M.E. Church; Rev. Lora Bingham, associate minister at Emmanuel Turner A.M.E. Church; and Rev. Edna Stafford, associate minister at Second A.M.E. Church. In addition, the Angel Choir of Walker Temple's Young People's Division and Rev. Carol Thomas, associate minister of Walker Temple, participated in the services.

"This has truly been a day of remembrance and it has energized us to continue moving forward," said Rev. Alexander. "We invite the community to take part in our Sunday services at 11 a.m., and our Bible Studies on Wednesday at 12 noon and at 7 p.m."
