Annual Women’s Day will be observed Sunday, February 27, at 11 a.m., at Hamilton United Methodist Church, at 6330 S. Figueroa Street in Los Angeles, announced Pastor Louis A. Chase, Order of St. Luke.

The public is invited to attend the service. The theme is “Christian Women Abiding in Prayer, Walking in Power and Keeping the Faith.” The guest speaker is Rev. Damali Najuma Smith-Pollard, pastor of St. James A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles.

Following the Women’s Day celebration, there will be a Fashion Show and Luncheon in the S. M. Bean Social Hall across the street, 6330 S. Figueroa Street at 12:45 p.m. The donation is $15.

Rev. Smith-Pollard, who accepted her call to the ministry in 1996, previously served as pastor of Quinn A.M.E. Church in Moreno Valley and as assistant pastor at Christ Our Redeemer A.M.E. Church in Irvine.

In addition, Rev. Smith-Pollard is the founder of Chocolate Tee Co. Urban Apparel and The ESHE Group, a non-profit organization that provides training, resources and referrals to youth and young adults in South Los Angeles and financial assistance to a home for children in Lesotho, Africa. In 2009, she released a collection of poetry, Through the Media of Love, offering her personal journey through love lost and found.

A graduate of Pepperdine University, Rev. Smith-Pollard also holds a bachelor’s degree in theology from Southern California School of Ministry and an MBA from Woodbury University.

In the area of community service, she is co-chair of Imani Phi Christ, a Christian sorority that focuses on the development of African-American Teen Girls; president of Passing The Mantle Alumni Association; and board member of Women's Global Resource Development Initiative (WGRDI).
