U.S. Congresswoman Maxine Waters and L.A. City Councilmembers Bernard Parks and Jan Perry were among community leaders to join in welcoming Bishop James B. and Mrs. Delois Walker to the Los Angeles area.Bishop Walker was recently assigned as presiding prelate of the Ninth Episcopal District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church. A gala reception was held in his honor at Lewis Metropolitan C.M.E. Church on December 11.Among those in attendance were Inglewood Mayor Danny Tabor, former U.S. Ambassador Sidney Williams, former L.A. Councilmember David Cunningham and a representative from the office of State Senator Rod Wright.Also present were leading C.M.E. pastors including Rev. Wendell M. Oldham, Jr. of Lewis Metropolitan, Rev. Harlan Jones of Phillips Temple, Rev. Byron L. Smith of Curry Temple, Rev. John Deron Johnson of Calvary, and Rev. William Smart and Rev. Thembekila Smart of Amos Memorial. Rev. Julio Andujo, Regional Administrator, and Rev. Napoleon Goshay, Presiding Elder - Los Angeles/San Diego District, participated as well.In addition, commendations were presented by Rev. Joseph C. Gardner of the C.M.E. Minister's Alliance, Bruce Levingston of the Lay Department, Wanda Thomas of the Missionary Department, Travis Hicks of Ministry to Men; Theresa Tapley of the Ministers Spouses; and Bettye Nichols on behalf of Carson Mayor Jim Dear.
