Despite a steady down-pour of rain this past Saturday, the spirits of over 1,200 area residents were high as they braved the elements to enjoy Councilmember Herb Wesson's annual Winter Wonderland for at-risk kids and families in need. This is the fourth year that Councilmember Wesson has hosted this event. Each family was provided free presents for the kids, a fresh patch of snow in which to play, and a lunch.A special highlight was a visit from Santa Claus who contributed time from his busy schedule to greet all of the families and take photos with the kids."The holiday season is about giving," said Councilmember Wesson. "There are so many families in need this year. So, what ever we can do that will get a smile out of a youngster is the most rewarding thing we can do. That kid's smile is priceless."Sponsoring an event for 1,200 people is a major undertaking. Joining Councilmember Wesson in supporting the event this year was the 101 Enterprises Foundation, Community Build, Inc., Paramount Pictures, LA Shares, Women for Wesson, the Olympic Park Neighborhood Council, the United Neighbors Neighborhood Council and SORO, the South Robertson Neighborhood Council."I am deeply grateful for the community partners that we work with in sponsoring this event, said Wesson. "They understand that it is our generosity and our spirit of giving that makes our community great."
