“Sugar” Shane Mosley showed up at Staples Center this past Saturday night to show that he is still an elite fighter. A one sided loss to Floyd Mayweather left a bad taste in his mouth, and a solid victory could have led to another big money fight for Mosley.

Mosley’s opponent Sergio Mora showed up to re-establish himself as one of the top boxers in the junior middleweight division.

After 12 rounds of mucking up the place, the two accomplished a whole lot of nothing.

One scorecard read 116-112 in favor of Mosley, one read 115-113 in favor of Mora, and the final scorecard read 114-114, making the fight a draw and leaving the bad taste in the mouths of fans who paid good money to watch the fight in person at Staples Center or on pay-per-view.

Mosley had an edge in the CompuBox punchstats, landing 161 of 522 punches to 93 of 508 for Mora. But Mora’s defense caused Mosley to miss on a lot of his power punches, and Mora was able to land cleaner punches throughout the fight.

Neither fighter hurt the other one, making the fight boring, and making it tough to score. On press row the scorecards were mixed, some for Mosley and some for Mora. The big losers were the fans that showed up expecting fireworks but rarely saw any big time shots landed.

At some points the crowd booed as the action was not fast enough.

Mora actually thought he was winning the fight in the final rounds. He claims that he let up and pretty much coasted through the end, where Mosley really came out slugging, like he was trying to close the show.

This is certainly one match up that fight fans will not want to see again.
