Suzanne Patterson-Jones, Blessed Sacrament School principal
Leading Jesuit-sponsored Elementary School in Hollywood Selects Principal With 20 Years Of Classroom and Administrative Experience
Michael J. Mandala, S.J., pastor of Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, announced Suzanne Patterson-Jones as principal for Blessed Sacrament School July 21. The historic church in the heart of Hollywood operates a K-8 school and adjacent preschool. The community's first Catholic church, founded in 1904 and with close ties to the film industry of the '30s and '40s, has operated the Jesuit-sponsored school for nearly 100 years.
"Ms. Patterson-Jones was chosen by a diligent search committee to replace Ava Haylock, our principal of 13 years. We are very pleased that she is bringing her combination of skills in administration and the classroom, along with her appreciation of the value of a Catholic education to our school," says Fr. Mandala.
A teacher and a district administrator with the Los Angeles Unified School District for more than 20 years, Patterson-Jones most recently has served in the classroom as teacher, and previously served in various administrative positions, including as a compliance coordinator, school services specialist, specialist in English language learning programs and elementary science teacher advisor. While her career has been in public schools, Patterson-Jones is a--more --product of the Catholic school system in Ohio, where she was born and lived until moving to California in the early 70s.
A Los Angeles resident, Patterson-Jones received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Mills College in Oakland, her Master's degree from Pepperdine University and her administrative credential from California State University Dominguez Hills.
"I'm looking forward to working with the parents and children of Blessed Sacrament School and Preschool and building on the tradition of academic excellence for which the school is known," says Patterson-Jones
One of only four Jesuit-sponsored elementary schools in California, Blessed Sacrament, like all Jesuit-sponsored schools, is known for emphasizing excellence in classical education, analytic thinking and social justice, a philosophy grounded in the teachings and traditions of St. Ignatius Loyola that focus on "forming students into men and women for others."
