L.A. Area Charter School's High Tech Teaching / Classroom Technology Demo Next Week for Area Media
On Tuesday August 24, New Millennium Secondary School made one of its new digital classrooms available to the media for observation for the first time. Attending media heard from school leaders, parents and students about how this unique charter school has greatly boosted student achievement levels through the implementation of technology: in the classroom and in the home using student and parent "portals".
The school provides laptops for every student, interactive whiteboards in every classroom and utilizes cloud-computing initiatives. In addition, parents of students attending New Millennium have 24/7 online access to grade books, homework assignments and achievement data as well as the ability to communicate with teachers seamlessly. This ability to connect with the classroom at their convenience is greatly boosting parent involvement and student achievement.
The schools partnership with California State University combined with their technology rich platform is designed to engage today's tech savvy students and prepare them for "higher education."
This was a unique opportunity to experience a technology focused college preparatory charter school within LAUSD, hear from relevant individuals about how hi-tech classrooms are having a positive affect and understand how these implementations can and are being done during state wide budget cuts in education. The executive director of New Millennium is Tony Kline
