A $10 spaghetti dinner fundraiser to support 25 secondary students traveling to Paris and Madrid will be held on Saturday, August 21, at the Century Community Charter School between 11 and 5:30 p.m. Group leader Delyna Diop, a French teacher at Washington Prep High School, as well as other adult chaperones will be traveling with EF Tours, an educational travel group, on a nine-day tour in June 2011.

Diop led students on a trip to Paris in 2007, which was a life-changing experience for them. She says that the downturn in the economy and increases in travel fees make fundraising for this trip a real challenge: "An often bigger challenge is to motivate this generation of students, many of whom live in the inner city, to be more global-minded," adding that the trip to Paris and Madrid will "give them a firsthand taste of what it is like to venture outside of their comfort zones and hopefully to develop an appreciation and respect for people of other cultures."

The spaghetti dinner includes a salad, dinner roll and drink. For further information, please contact Delyna Diop at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
