Judge Hatchett's 'ParentPowerNow!' and the Aetna kick off Functional Fitness with the support of actress Tichina Arnold
Aetna and Judge Glenda Hatchett, judicial powerhouse and celebrity personality, along with actress Tichina Arnold, are inviting families to 'get their move on' with Judge Hatchett's 'ParentPowerNow!' anti-obesity program. "Parent Power Now!" is an online community of people interested in working together and learning more about parenting. On Saturday, August 7, Obesity Doesn't Live Here Anymore: Fit Family Fun Fest will be held in the Los Angeles area, at Del Amo Mall in the JoAnn Court, 3525 Carson Street, Torrance, 9:30 a.m.--2 p.m.
Movement and functional fitness are the cornerstones of the new Fit Family Fun Fest program designed to run the full school year. The August 7, event is a back-to-school kickoff to encourage families to put health in the backpacks of their children this upcoming school year. At the event, participants can enjoy a Community Power Walk at the Del Amo Mall with KJLH-FM 102.3 Radio Free's Nautica de la Cruz. They can get their move on in old school competitions--jump rope, hula hoop--and functional fitness activities with CJs Functional Fitness. Every hour winners of these competitions will win on the spot cash and prizes. FREE health screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure, and eye care will be available for the full event so families can get starting information to take control of their health.
"For the first time in history, the nation's children have a shorter life expectancy than their parents. This can be directly attributed to a lack of exercise and poor diet. Through our ParentPowerNow! program, we want to give people the tools to improve their health--to help children improve their life expectancy and to help parents live long enough to enjoy their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren" said Judge Hatchett.
Floyd Green, head of Community Relations and Urban Marketing for Aetna, said obesity prevention is a focus of both Aetna and the Aetna Foundation. "This campaign will not only help change lives, but save them."
In support of the event, Tichina Arnold, actress from "Everybody Hates Chris" and Advisory Board Member of the National PTA, will make an appearance at 11:30am to take pictures, sign autographs, and join the movement activities.
Of her involvement, Tichina Arnold said, "I am honored to participate in a day that is all about health and functional fitness for our families. It is important to me to be involved with this project--that promotes healthy lifestyles, anti-obesity and is about fun and activity." Arnold continued, "Recent health concerns have pushed my family to become even more involved and active. We are testaments and this event will help get functional fitness as well as important health information and screenings out to the community. I follow the motto: 'Don't just talk about it. Be about it!"
Participation is FREE for www.parentpowernow.com membership and entry to the Fit Family Fun Fest event. "ParentPowerNow!" is a digital community that grows together to strengthen families, empowers parents, and inspire kids. Membership includes one: one parent discussions, group forums, blog, and a weekly Monday evening community call, Ask the Judge, hosted personally by Judge Hatchett.
