Sharifa McCauley is an intern at the Sentinel within the Executive Department. She has contributed to the Editorial Department writing book reviews and proofing stories.
McCauley is an 18-year old student at Cal State Northridge entering her sophomore year. She is a journalism major with a concentration in newspaper. McCauley plans to minor in creative writing or computer science.
"I got the opportunity to be an intern for the Sentinel through Trinity Baptist Church's Summer Youth Employment Program." McCauley spoke about what she's gained from her internship and how it could help others. "I am getting a lot of experience...which is important for someone who wants to break into journalism."
She has future plans to become a copy editor or work as an acquisitions editor for a publishing company. McCauley addressed some important facts on how students can be successful in school and college. "Actually study and do your homework, become friends with people in the financial aid office, go to your professor's office... and ask questions."
Khadijah McCaskill is an intern at the Sentinel in the Editorial Department. She has written a few stories for the paper focusing on more conscious and political ethics concerning Black community.
McCaskill will be a sophomore at Bryn Mawr College, a women's college in Pennsylvania. She is majoring in Political Science and minoring in Philosophy. She is interested in writing about politics and race related issues.
She's an avid student of tap dance, enjoys reading and playing the popular computer game, Sims 3. McCaskill offered some short and simple advice to freshmen on entering college, "Don't procrastinate! Just don't do it!"
Kaylee Davis is an intern in the Editorial Department at the Sentinel. She has written stories focusing on local and national news. Davis has also covered stories for sports and has a couple of commentaries under her belt.
She will be beginning her senior year at Hampton University this fall where she is a Broadcast Journalism major and Psychology minor. Davis is also an active member of her schools radio and television stations. She is a 2007 graduate of Bishop Montgomery High School.
Davis has aspirations to pursue law after school but will continue to pursue her passion for writing. She plans to stay on with the Sentinel in the future as a contributing writer. "Working at the Sentinel has truly been a blessing and exciting experience for me this summer, and I plan to remain in correspondence with the Sentinel."
