Johan Haynes displays the pants he wore before losing 118 pounds

This time last year, John Haynes could hardly walk up stairs. He was plagued by constant headaches, his back and ankles always hurt, and retrieving items from the floor was practically impossible.
Then, in November 2009, he started the Cookie Congregation Diet System, and dropped a whopping 118 pounds in eight months.
“I feel absolutely wonderful! This diet was the best thing to ever happen to me. My waist shrunk from 60 inches to 36 inches and my shirt size went from 5X to extra-large. I can even wear some large sizes,” said Haynes.
“Prayer was a big part of my success. God changed me. He changed me to resist certain foods and gave me hope and strength. Food was like an addiction and I knew only God could correct it. Also, once I lost the weight, I realized how abnormal it was, having all those aches, feeling uncomfortable in clothes and more uncomfortable around people,” he said.
Like many people, Haynes had struggled with weight all his adult life. “I tried so many diets, but nothing would ever stick. I went up and down, lost weight and gained it back. I didn’t give up, but I didn’t know which way to turn either,” he said.
The turning point came when Haynes saw his pastor, Rev. Dr. Clyde Oden of Bryant Temple A.M.E. Church, lose 55 pounds. “He announced what he was doing, and then he offered to share the Cookie Diet System with the congregation. So being in that hopeless state, I went ahead and made up my mind to join and see if this diet system could help me with my life.”
Haynes decided he would adapt his lifestyle to the diet system’s ‘Pillars of Performance’ - prayer, education, exercise, and diet. “I knew the cookies were eliminating all the bad choices I had made in my life, and I had made plenty of them,” recalled Haynes. “I was eating throughout the day and night. I would have fried chicken, French, fries, tacos and a bunch of junk. So, I was excited about the diet and wanted to see what the first week would be like.” And the first week, he lost 12 pounds and continued losing every week, going down from 345 pounds to the 200’s.
Still, there were challenges, such as the aroma of foods he used to eat. “The aroma would arouse all my other senses. Even hearing hamburger sizzling would get my attention. It was the toughest part of my urges. But I was determined to follow this diet.
“I used prayer all the time and would pray to God in rough situations. If I had an urge late at night, I would pray, then go to bed and wake up with the victory. Also, I’m a musician, so when I would play at banquets or restaurants, I would pray constantly for God to deliver me and help me through the event, and He did. God always gave me the victory,” said Haynes.
“My goal is to get to 190 pounds and I will. Also, I’ll go to the gym, do the presses, until I get my ‘six-pack.’ I know I can do it and others can too.”
