There’s no doubt that the Dodgers are slumping right now. They just lost three straight games to the Red Sox, and have dropped nine out of their last 11 games.
The boys in blue continue to look a little lost and confused. Dodgers please let go of the snooze button and wake up! They now find themselves sitting in third place in the NL West after getting swept by the Red Sox. Would someone deliver a message and let them know that their schedule for the month of June won’t get any easier. What could be possibly going on in Dodger town?
At the beginning of the season there were reports that the Dodgers pitching staff was not strong enough. Is it coming to haunt them or is it too much pressure on the bullpen?
There’s no doubt in my mind that pitching is becoming an epic fail for the Dodgers, but I’m not going to put out an AMBER Alert just yet. I’ll give them about three more weeks to clean things up, before we report their name and jersey numbers to the LAPD.
Not to mention the offense has gone stale. Matt Kemp, who was having a field day with his bat, hitting seven home runs in his first 14 games, has gone cold. He’s now on a 0-16 slump and his batting average has plumped to a whopping .258. Kemp gets to the point where he wants it so bad that he gets impatient and starts to chase the ball and gets caught swinging at anything. Once he calms down and begin to open his eyes at the plate, he’ll turn his swag back on.
“He’s fighting himself,†Dodgers Manager Joe Torre said. “He just doesn’t look to sure of himself.â€
Andre Ethier’s batting average has also dropped before our eyes going from a superb .400 to a .318. He hasn’t been able to control his stats since returning from the disabled list.
The Dodgers objection continues to be leaving runners in scoring position. They have got to find a way to produce, and drive their teammates in or they will be in a deeper hole.
The expectations for the Dodgers are high, especially since their neighbors the Los Angeles Lakers have spoiled LA fans with multiple championships. It would have been nice to see the Dodgers beat the Boston Red Sox, being that the Lakers sent the Celtics back to Boston on a one-way ticket without a title.
I'm putting the Dodgers on the radar until they can consistently win ball games. They have the potential to be a great team if they can stay on a hot streak for more than a month. I'm not going to dismiss them yet because it's still early in the season. The minute articles go flying out about how the Dodgers are slipping away they seem to bark back and make your writing irrelevant. I just have two words for the fellas: “bounce back".
