During this special Men's Month at LA Third Church, I want to revisit the topic of Spiritual Communion and give it a subtitle, Return to Sender. You know how you send something out and it comes back to you, that's what this Spiritual Communion thing is all about; it's reconnecting us with that from whence we came, returning to sender. We've been on this Spiritual journey within ourselves recognizing and maximizing our connection with the presence of God through prayer work, meditation, and visualization. We can use that union to navigate through this thing called life. Our lives are the sum total of our thoughts which control our choices and actions and determines our future. Now if you grew up like I did you were told that God has a plan for you and whatever is going to happen is going to happen, and all you have to do is put your trust in the lord and turn your life over to Christ. And I'm here to tell you that we must all turn our lives over to Christ; to the Christ within, the better part of ourselves, because God does have a plan and he has executed that plan to a tee. He placed us in a garden, an organized space of activity, a universal body, if you will with the intent that we experience all the beauty, love, joy, peace, harmony and pleasure there is.....for eternity. That was the plan, that is the plan. But you know what happened, by choosing other than our divine nature, now we're faced with the daily chore of turning over that soil in the garden, again and again, re-evolving our souls to come back to that which we were originally made to be. Return to Sender. You see God is not just the source, but He is our resource and as we learn to express ourselves in harmony with Him we will experience the life he has given us in all it's glory. We will be capable of weathering any storm. You know, this subject lends itself to one of my favorite stories, the Wizard of Oz. In that story Dorothy was fearful that someone was about to take from her unconditional love, in the form of her little dog Toto. So in her fear and irrationality, she ran and ran, and got caught up in a storm. You know how some of us get caught up sometimes, we get confused and scared. Same thing. She found herself in a strange place, a place she didn't know far away from her home. Not knowing what to do or where to go, she heard a still, small voice that said, "All you have to do is follow the light, follow the Spirit, the Christ within you; follow the enlightenment of the yellow brick road and it will take you back to that place from whence you came. You will Return to Sender." Not in those exact words, of course, but you understand. Dorothy had to think about her situation and commune with God in order for the scarecrow to climb down off the cross that had her thinking she was incapable of doing what was needed to embark on this journey. Don't we sometimes find ourselves in the very same situation in life? As she came down, as the scarecrow came down, she realized she was smart and connected and could solve her own problems. She was ready to move toward her desired destination. And in that second level of understanding, Dorothy saw that no matter how big and strong you are, or how many weapons you've got, unless you're coming from the heart space, unless you have a softening of the heart, unless you can tap into the Christ within, you can't move. You're paralyzed, you're crippled. But when you're coming from the heart space, you're anointed with the love that's in your heart, and suddenly you're able to move and make something happen in your life. You're no longer afraid. You can stop tucking your tail under and remove yourself from the forest. You can move on down the rode with pride in your step like the cowardly lion was able to do. Doesn't that sound like some of us when we have a problem? But some of us still get fooled by appearances. We see a field of beautiful poppies and think that's the way we're supposed to go, but thank God it only takes a minute to change our minds. Then we get back on the right path and can navigate all of the doubts and fears that come at us in the form of those flying monkeys in Dorothy's case. They were able to escape the doubts and fears and continue on until they reached the Land of Oz, the promised land. This was going to get them back home. But then Dorothy communed with Spirit, once again, and realized that Oz was something outside of herself that she was depending on to conquer her fears. But Oz couldn't conquer her fears, he couldn't conquer his own; he couldn't get home either. So she had to go back and kill the wicked witch, which symbolized her biggest fear, and take the witches' broom. Once she did that, she had the power to go home. That small still voice that she heard at the beginning of her quest had placed it on her feet. The feet represent faith people; the foundation that we stand on. All she had to do was click her heels three times; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. But before she could go home, she felt the need to commune with Spirit one more time; there's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home. There's no place like being One with the Father, like going home and finding all the unconditional love you thought you'd lost. Like Dorothy, we must have Spiritual Communion, an intimate conversation with God, on a constant basis and every word spoken must be for the purpose of bringing us to a higher level of consciousness. We must Return to Sender.
