Congresswoman Richardson Announces Help is on the Way For Seniors on How the New Healthcare Law Will Impact Medicare
Congresswoman Laura Richardson announced that Medicare beneficiaries should start receiving copies of the brochure "Medicare and the New Health Law--What it Means for You" in the mail this week. The mailing outlines key provisions of the Affordable Care Act for People with Medicare as well as their family members. The mailing is being sent in both English and Spanish.
"This information is particularly important for our seniors in the 37th District, where many of them do not have email access, which can leave them vulnerable to scam artists," Congresswoman Richardson said. "Many of the benefits of this new law were explained at the recent 37th Congressional District Senior Briefing and Luncheon, but there are many other seniors who were unable to join us for that event or would benefit from this additional information. And with our senior population growing and using Medicare at unprecedented rates it is vital to get this information out to them."
Because Medicare is a trusted resource for beneficiaries and their family members, the mailing encourages them to long onto www.medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE to get their questions about Medicare or the Affordable Care Act answered and also reminds them to be on alert for possible scams.
Congresswoman Richardson is a Democrat from California's 37th Congressional District. She is a member of the House Committees on Transportation & Infrastructure and Homeland Security. Her district includes Long Beach, Compton, Carson, Watts, Willowbrook and Signal Hill. She is chair of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Communications, Preparedness, and Response.
