Michelle Moore Bell
Making a difference in the lives of others while giving back to the communityThe integrity and determination of Michelle Moore Bell has made tremendous strides and achievements in the beauty industry. This seems to be an appropriate time to commemorate her work in giving back to the community.
She has experienced many sides in the beauty business-as owner, educator, licensed professional cosmetologist, mentor and hair and skin care specialist.
For over 28 years, she has transformed the lives of women worldwide in the areas of beauty and wellness. This passion has caused her to live her dreams inspiring women all over the globe to look and feel good about themselves and to learn how to live healthier lifestyles.
Bell offers classes, services and products to enhance the natural beauty of women of every age.
One of the things Bell loves best is giving back to the community. In serving others, she volunteers her time, skills and talent to the American Cancer Society to help women with cancer to look great and feel good about themselves. She also donates talent and products to women's shelters and organizations.
Bell has been recognized by many for her commitment in serving others and was recently highlighted in "Who's Who in Black Los Angeles." Photographer Valerie Goodloe featured Bell in an exhibit of African American leaders of Los Angeles. Recognition given by other organizations includes Kizure Products; the AHBAI/American Health and Beauty Aids Institute; BMW; the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation; NAWBO/The National Association of Women Business Owners-LA; and the ABWE/Association of Black Women Entrepreneurs.
As an educator, Bell teaches business skills, techniques and trends to the salon owner and the professional hair stylist, plus she caters to consumers' hair care concerns. She teaches the benefits of going to a professional stylist, and using professional take-home hair care products for healthy hair. She also teaches skin care to women. She created and promoted her own line of skin care products and make-up for 17 years before she was introduced to Mary Kay seven years ago.
Bell loves to reward her customers, that is one of the reasons she offers a referral program that provides free hair care services and products.
She recently gave away beauty and wellness gift bags to her clients and the Los Angeles communities just for the asking.
"In June of 2009, I provided a workshop on hair and skin care and giveaways at a center hosted by Karen Waters. With parts of South Los Angeles having 20 percent of those in the labor force out of work, a few of my beauty professional friends and myself decided to give back to the community by offering free hair cuts and hair styling to ladies who were laid off from their jobs." "Each person was also given a beauty bag filled with hair care and beauty products," she continued. "At another affair, 'Call From the Heart,' which is a free event, we asked the ladies to bring their cell phones. The guests attended workshops on breast health awareness and healthy lifestyles. During the sessions, we asked them to call five of their friends to encourage them to get a mammogram and to do a monthly breast self-exam. They were treated to pampering that included a massage, makeup and bra fittings."
A native of Muncie, Indiana, Michelle Moore Bell relocated to Los Angeles in 1978 and held a position at Hughes Aircraft Company, now known as Raytheon Company, before she ventured into the beauty industry. She believes her success stems from her Christian faith and the tremendous support that she received from her late husband of 20 years, Richard L. Bell. She is an active member of West Angeles Church of God in Christ and serves on the Board of Directors. An active 14-year member of Black Women's Network, she currently serves as part of the African American Task Force of Partnered for Progress, where she and a team of support groups host "Call From the Heart."
Bell continues to receive letters of praise daily from her customers and those whose lives she has touched-from not only their outer beauty, but their inner beauty, also.
