Mother Lila Dunning Young

Reflections of a Celebrated Life
After ninety-five years, Lila Dunning Young departed this life on March 11, 2010. Born November 22, 1914 in Marengo County, Alabama, Young was the third child of eight born to Matthew and Emma Dunning.
Having grown up on a farm, Young enjoyed attending church. She acquired the duties of being responsible for her siblings and found wrestling with them to be one of her favorite pastimes.
It was at a church event that Young met Manifee Young, whom she married November, 18, 1933 and after twenty-eight years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 1962. To this union were born thirteen children: Woodie James, Jay Gould, (preceded her in death in 1936), Mattie Pearl, Sylvester, Mary Ceil, Curtis Cornelius, Henri, Netti Emma (preceded her in death in 2004), Bertha Gray, Willie Lee, Johnny Jasper, Bobby Joe, and Clemon Edward.
In 1945, Young joined the Church of God Pentecostal in Dixon Mills, Alabama under the leadership of the late Bishop E.D. Davis. She served as a faithful member becoming an intercessory prayer warrior and church mother. In April 2009, Young was appointed the "International Mother Emeritus" by the International Council of The Church of God Pentecostal, Incorporated.
Aside from Young's enjoyment as wife and mother, she was known for her excellent homemaking, fabulous cooking, and gardening. She looked forward to her annual birthday celebrations and family reunions.
As the Lila DunningYoung carries on, she leaves to cherish her precious memories eleven children, one niece-daughter, forty-eight grandchildren, sixty-eight great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
