Second time on deck for "Come Sunday"

Southern California playwright and producer Brandi Burks presents a return engagement of her popular stage production "Come Sunday" every weekend in April at Stage 52 in Los Angeles.

Initially staged in 2006, "Come Sunday" is a timely and contemporary drama about a mother's struggle to keep her family strong and safe from the negative influences that can sometimes entrap a young man.

"I decided to re-stage this play after re-evaluating and critiquing it. Out of all my plays, I believe "Come Sunday" has one of the most positive and powerful messages. And that is truly needed in the inner city right now," explained Burks about why she decided to reprise the show.

This new production of "Come Sunday" features a stellar combination of performers including four from the original cast.

This restaging of "Come Sunday" also features also features live music created by Cedric Lilly, unlike the first run as well as a 13-member cast that presents very real performances.

Since she first wrote, "Come Sunday," Burks has written two other productions that have played to packed houses. Two--"Come Sunday" and "Men Cry too"--were even evaluated by the NAACP Theater Group, and the Compton-born, Moreno Valley raised playwright earned a nomination for Theater Award nomination.

"Come Sunday" will appear at Stage 52 April 17, 18, 24 and 25 on Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 4 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance from www.play411.com or for $30 at the door. For groups and additional information, call (323) 600-7402.
