C.M.E. Ninth District Prepares For Spring Convocation

THE THEME: “FROM GOOD TO GREAT: THE JESUS CHALLENGE:

BUILDING LEADERS FOR TODAY AND TOMORROW!”

The Christian Methodist Episcopal Church of The Ninth Episcopal District Spring Convocation, Leadership Training School and Missionary Training Institute and Lay Training Institute is scheduled to convene April 14 th through April 16 th, 2010, at The Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, 9750 Airport Blvd., Los Angeles, CA (310) 645-4600. Wednesday, April 14 th, Registration begins at 12:00 Noon – Fee $60.00 Per Person. Bishop Williamson will meet with Presiding Elders, The Joint Board and The Regional Administrators from 10:00 to 12:00 noon and will meet with Program Participants and Moderators from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. The Lunch Hour is from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. THE OPENING PLENARY is at 1:00 p.m. and The Speaker is Bishop Henry M. Williamson, Sr., Presiding Prelate. THE TRAINING SESSIONS are from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The Missionary Institute, Sister Renee Woodruff, Institute Director. The Lay Institute “Go Grow Your Church,” Brother Bruce Levingston, Moderator and Instructor. Ministers’ Spouses, Widows, and Widowers Institute “Go Grow Your Church,” Mrs. Norma Jean Cummings, Moderator and Mrs. Doris Y. Williamson, Instructor. Pastors and Ministers Institute, “Go Grow Your Church,” Rev. Marshall Sharpe, Moderator and Instructor. The Dinner Hour is from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. THE HOLY COMMUNION WORSHIP SERVICE will be at 7:00 p.m. The Worship Leaders are Presiding Elder Rev. Peris J. Lester, I and the Presiding Elders of The Ninth Episcopal District. The Guest Preacher is Rev. Dr. James F. Miller, Pastor of DuPage A.M.E. Church, Lisle, IL. Michael Grady, Pastor of Phillips Chapel C.M.E. Church, El Paso, Texas, 8:40 to 9:00 a.m. The Training Sessions: The Lay and Clergy Institute: “World Mission and Evangelism,” Rev. Phillip Scott Nelson, Instructor from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. The Break-10:15 to 10:30 a.m. The Lay and Clergy Institute – “Spiritual Leadership for African-American Congregations,” Rev. Dr. James F. Church, Oakland, CA from 8:40 to 9:00 a.m. Ministers and Lay Institute, “Twelve Standards of Church Leaders,” from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. The Business Session: “One Church, One School,” Ninth District Special Fund-Annual Conferences 11:00 to 12 noon. Lunch is from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. “World Mission and The Local Church,” Rev. Phillip Scott Nelson, Lecturer from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. The Business Session of the Conference-Special Fund, Reports, Presiding Elders Reports from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The Dinner Hour is from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Evening Service of Worship begins at 7:00 p.m. The Worship Leaders are Rev. Dr. John Deron Johnson and the Pastors of The Ninth Episcopal District. The Guest Preacher is Bishop Mildred B. Hines, Presiding Prelate of The Western West African District of The A.M.E. Church. The Ninth Episcopal District is composed of Five Regions, Namely; The Arizona/New Mexico Region, The Alaska Pacific Region, The Oklahoma Region, The Northern California Region, and The Southern California Region. All C.M.E.’s are invited and expected to attend this powerful and inspirational Convocation, “From Good to Great: The Jesus Challenge: Building Leaders for Today and Tomorrow!”
