LAUSD Board of Education member Marguerite LaMotte, LAUSD Superintendent Ramon C. Cortines, and Los Angeles School Police Department Chief Mike Bowman were present when Cynthia Jordan, senior vice president, Comerica Bank, presented the check to DeWayne Davis, principal of Audubon Middle School, and David Sanchez, principal of Hillcrest Drive Elementary School.
Each principal received a $26,000 check to implement a Safe Passages Program at their respective school for the 2010-2011 school year. Officers will patrol the school area to ensure a safe dismissal as students walk home or wait for transportation in areas with gang and violent crimes.
