Brainwashed: Challenging the Myth of Black Inferiority

Tom Burrell takes a long look into the complex web of social ills that plague African-American society.

Over the years, there has been a call for African-Americans to come together as a unit of strength, integrity and pride. Many have answered the call over the years but the problem still remains. The Black community continues to be assaulted by negative imagery from the media, destructive thoughts and an overall mindset that's crippling us as a people.

Tom Burrell, founder and former CEO of Burrell Communications, has worked in the advertising industry for 45 years and is an inductee of the Advertising Hall of Fame. Burrell has seen up close and personal how media, politics and social stigmas have affected the African-American psyche.

In his book, BRAINWASHED: Challenging the Myth of Black Inferiority, Burrell explores the depth of brainwashing that has been inflicted on African-American for centuries. He examines the issues within the Black community from every angle. Burrell addresses issues like: lack of strong Black families, education, sexual stereotypes, Black-on-Black violence and many other topics.

Burrell addresses the "ho" persona that has been subjected upon Black females, from slavery to the present; the health of Black America and the denial of our unhealthy diets; and he touches on African-American's mistrust and dis-unity amongst one another. This book covers a plethora of varying problems that continue to plague our communities in a continuing vicious cycle.

BRAINWASHED looks at the perpetual, subconscious thought of black inferiority and the effects of that process. Although Burrell is detailed and careful to point out the problems, he also offers the key steps to reverse the damage.

Burrell speaks on the power of media to change the Black-mindset. He speaks on an anti-brainwashing initiative using: audio or visual, radio, film billboards, Internet and other media to change the way Black America thinks.
