Senator Wright Honors 25th Senate District ‘Women of Distinction”

Twenty-five women from local communities honored for their hard work and contributions to their communities

Senator Roderick D. Wright (D-Inglewood) honored 25 local women at a celebratory luncheon on Friday, March 5 at the Proud Bird Restaurant for being "Women of Distinction" in the 25th Senate District.

Each woman was recognized individually by Senator Wright and presented with a Senate Resolution. The women have excelled in every field of endeavor from education and elected office to community activism and philanthropy.

"It is women like these who have made tremendous sacrifices and contributions to our communities throughout history. They are proof that one woman can change the lives of many and make an enormous difference in our neighborhoods," said Senator Wright.

The diverse group of women were nominated by various elected officials, community leaders and organizations throughout the 25th District which include Alondra Park, Athens, Compton, Gardena, Florence-Graham, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Ladera Heights, Lawndale, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Palos Verdes Peninsula, San Pedro, Watts, Westchester, Westmont, and Willowbrook.

"I am proud to recognize some of my district's most dedicated volunteers. They have truly given back to our community and exemplify the title "Women of Distinction,"' said Senator Wright.

Honorees include:

Lupe Andrade was nominated by the Regional Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; Tracy Austin was nominated by the City of Rolling Hills Estates; Dr; Elaine Britt was nominated by the Inglewood Unified School District Board of Education; Zadie Cannon was nominated by the Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education; Patricia "Pat" Donaldson was nominated by the City of Hawthorne; Charmaine Doty was nominated by the City of Lawndale; LaVerne Duncan was nominated by the City of Long Beach; Angie English was nominated by the Hawthorne School District Board of Education; Kay Finer was nominated by the City of Rolling Hills Estates; Kimberly Freeman was nominated by the Los Angles Area Chamber of Commerce; Lenora Gibson was nominated by the City of Compton; Marcia Gold was nominated by the City of Rolling Hills; Kathy Gould was nominated by the City of Rolling Hills Estates; Elizabeth "Liz" Griggs was nominated by the City of Rolling Hills Estates; Patricia Harris-Moore was nominated by the City of Gardena; LaFlorence Hollis was nominated by the City of Compton; Aileen Hoy was nominated by the Palos Verdes Library District; Wanda Love was nominated by the Gardena Valley Chamber of Commerce; Ruby Maillian was nominated by the City of Los Angeles; Dr. Carmen Shaye was nominated by the City of Long Beach; Nan Schneider was nominated by the City of Los Angeles; Maria Smietan was nominated by the City of Inglewood; Camilla Townsend was nominated by the City of Los Angeles; Sherri Williams was nominated by the City of Los Angeles; and Dorothy Williamson was nominated by the City of Lawndale.
