Bernard and Shirley Kinsey to Open Ebony Repertory Theatre's Black History Month Celebration

The Ebony Repertory Theatre is kicking off its month-long Black History Month celebration by hosting An Evening with Bernard and Shirley Kinsey: What You Didn't Learn in High School History on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 8:00 p.m.

The event is being generously supported by Farmer's Insurance, US Bank and The Bernard and Shirley Kinsey Foundation for Arts and Education.

For more than thirty-five years, The Kinsey's have been collecting historically important and culturally relevant items. "Giving a voice, a name and a personality to the tremendous accomplishments of our ancestors, Shirley and I feel extremely fortunate to be able to bring this program to the residents of Los Angeles," said Bernard Kinsey.

Their collection has toured the country in an exhibit called "Shared Treasures of Bernard and Shirley Kinsey, Where Art and History Intersect" which features more than ninety rare books, sculptures, paintings, documents, manuscripts and vintage photographs which tell the story of African Americans in the Americas from 1632 to present.

"We are excited to be able to share with our audience the personal treasures of Bernard and Shirley Kinsey," said Wren T. Brown, Founder/Producer, Ebony Repertory Theatre. "But we are more excited to be aligned with the living treasures that are Bernard and Shirley Kinsey."

The evening will feature a verbal and visual presentation by Bernard and Shirley Kinsey, as well as a mini-exhibit of selected pieces from their collection.

Tickets may be purchased at www.ebonyrep.org. There is ample lot and street parking and the theatre is wheelchair accessible. Concessions are available for purchase. Ticket prices are $35 for Reserved Seating (which includes a champagne and dessert reception), $15 for General Admission and $8 for Children 12 and under (available at the door only). For more information, please call (323) 964-9766.
