By Brandon I. Brooks Sentinel Entertainment Editor Bad Boy Recording Group DAY26 came to town last week (September 29) to perform at the legendary House of Blues located on Sunset Boulevard. The performance kicked-off the BET 106 & Park Live Tour. Performing on tour alongside DAY26 is R&B artist Trey Songz and Mario.
Last year saw DAY26 enter the record books as the biggest-selling debut album from a male R&B group in the 17-year history of SoundScan. The album - which included the hit singles, "Got Me Going" and "Since You Been Gone" - exploded into the #1 spot on the SoundScan/Billboard 200 in its first week of release, while also topping Billboard's "Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums" chart.
The recent House of Blues performance was very surprising because I did not expect a packed house. I have been too many performances at the House of Blues on Sunset and I can tell you from the congested angle I had to watch the show, that Day 26 performance was arguably sold-out.
I have to give Day 26 credit because they came into town and handled business. They had great stage presence and it was obvious that the group's chemistry has gotten much better over the last year.
I found myself forgetting that these are the same guys from the television show "Making the Band". The House of Blue performance proved that Day 26 has truly come into their own as a legit R&B unit.
The only problem I had with the performance was the sound quality but I wouldn't blame it on Day 26 because House of Blues is known to distort artist vocals more often than not.
I could appreciate the energy in the building.
For an R&B show, the energy of the crowd was hype and very energetic. I would have hoped that there would have been more dancing but the crowd was locked into watching the stage.
Day 26 did a great job interacting with the audience and giving fans exactly what they came to see.
Throughout the night there were waving hands moving side to side and rarely time to slow dance because eyes were locked onto the stage.
I enjoyed the overall ambiance because it was a couple's atmosphere and for the few singles that did attend the concert, there were ladies and gentlemen looking to mingle.
I would recommend a DAY26 concert for any and all ages and especially a special date night.
