As the first Black president of the Los Angeles City Council, Herb Wesson was serenaded by a broad section of the community including elected and public officials, representatives from the business, religious and grassroots communities, community organizations and members of the community.
One of the hosts, Charisse Bremond-Weaver, president and CEO of the Brotherhood Crusade, said, "It was really a coming-together of the African American leadership coming together to celebrate the first African American president of the Los Angeles City Council.
In addition to the Brotherhood Crusade, there was Los Angeles Urban League (Blair Taylor); Community Coalition (Marqueece Harris-Dawson); Judge David Cunningham III of the L.A. Superior Court; Avis Ridley-Thomas, first lady of the Second District; Council member of Pasadena, Jacqui Robinson; Jackie Lacey; Danny J. Bakewell Sr.; Attorney Areva Martin; Renee Cross Washington; former L.A. mayor Richard Riordan; and representatives from AT&T and Bank of America.
Bremond-Weaver also said, "We thought it was necessary to celebrate this historical accomplishment of honoring one of our own."
