McNabb no need to worry
Eagles quarterback Donavan McNabb does not have to worry about losing his job anytime soon, especially to Michael Vick.
Many seem to believe that Vick will replace McNabb at some point, but why would Eagles head coach Andy Reid make that switch? McNabb is a boarder line Hall of Fame player, has been nothing but a winner for years, has taken his team to one Super Bowl and four NFC Championship Games, and has put up very good passing stats his entire career.
Vick, on the other hand, missed the playoffs as much as he made it when he was the Falcons quarterback, has been inaccurate when compared to other quarterbacks, has struggled reading defenses, has not played in a regular season game in two years, and he is not even the backup quarterback, he is third string.
Vick will be used as a "slash" type player, similar to the way the Steelers used Kordell Stewart. If everything goes as planned the Eagles will not be naming Vick their starting quarterback.
Vikings look like they are for real
The Vikings may be the team to beat in the NFC. They have a very good defense, one of the best running games in the league with Adrian Peterson leading the way, and now they add a legit quarterback in Brett Farve.
Farve will put this team over the top because he is not washed up yet. Two years ago he led the Packers to the NFC Championship game. Last year without him they were a horrible team.
Last year, before an arm injury ended his season, he led the Jets to an 8-3 start and it looked like they would make a run at the Super Bowl. After his injury the Jets fell flat and missed the playoffs.
Farve can still sling the ball all over the field and now he has a defense and a running game. Think of John Elway late in his career when he had Terrell Davis and a very good defense.
The Vikings will have to watch out for the Bears in their division. Trading for Jay Cutler gave the Bears their first legit quarterback in years.
The Raiders are that bad
Everybody thinks it, especially 49ers cornerback Nate Clements.
During a joint practice between the two teams the 49ers dominated the Raiders so badly that Clements shouted out "I love it when they can't compete!" The Raiders did not have much of a response to that statement.
It is hard to argue with his assessment, seeing that last year the Raiders broke the record for consecutive 11 loss seasons with six in a row. It does not look any better this year for the Raiders, as the Raiders look like they may be the worst team in the league at this point.
The Raiders may feel like they can get some wins because the AFC West is weak. But the other AFC West teams are also looking at the Raiders for some easy wins.
Who says LA is a bad sports town
The notion that Los Angeles is unable to support an NFL team because of a lack of attendance is just silly. This past Saturday USC, UCLA, and the Dodgers all hosted games, and brought in about a combined 190,000 fans.
The NFL league average for attendance is about 65,000. UCLA averages about that amount, and USC normally sells out the 90,000+ seat Coliseum. With over 13 million people in the Los Angeles and Orange County area, the NFL would not have any problem seeing out a game.
Chargers Merriman caught up with Tila Tequila
Chargers linebacker Shawne Marriman was arrested after being accused by reality TV star Tila Tequila of assault, but it appears that he may have simply been doing the right thing.
He was accused of choking and throwing Tequila to the ground as she tried to leave his home, but Merriman said that she was extremely intoxicated, and that he was stopping her from driving home. He said that he did not choke her or throw her to the ground, and that there were no bruises found on her.
Merriman attended Chargers practice this week, and is expected to play this Monday night against the Raiders. He said that he expects his name to be cleared in this case. Â
