L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas with youth at the ceremony to celebrate the newly renovated Woodcrest Library in Los Angeles.

After an extensive renovation, the Woodcrest Library will reopen its doors to the public following a 3:30 p.m. special ceremony today with a whole new look.

The reopening ceremony will take place library, located at 1340 West 106th Street in Los Angeles. The festivities will include storytelling and entertainment for the entire family.

Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, who funded the project, said he is pleased that the Woodcrest Library has been completely renovated from the new roof on top to the colorful new carpet underfoot.

"Especially during difficult budget times, one of my top priorities is to make sure that our libraries are beautiful, safe and welcoming spaces that the community is proud to spend time in," Supervisor Ridley-Thomas said.

He pointed out the library's new and improved computer furniture, self-check machines for quicker checkout, totally renovated public restrooms and a fresh coat of paint complete the makeover. The renovation also enhanced space for books, computers and patrons and includes special areas for children, teens and adults.

Immediately following the ceremony, a special children's program "Kids Get the Blues To" will be performed by singer and guitarist Brother Yusef. This unique presentation will transform traditional children's songs into blues, with lots of audience participation through singing, dancing, clapping and instrument playing. There will be plenty of giveaways for families including books and gifts.

The Woodcrest Library will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library is part of the County of Los Angeles Public Libraries. For additional information, please visit the County Library Web site at
