Fans pay tribute to Michael Jackson at special Staples CenterMemorial Service
If Michael Jackson Had Lived?Pop King would have been 51 Aug. 29By Kenneth MillerSentinel Managing EditorThe surreal odyssey of Michael Jackson's monumental rise to fame as a child singer to the world's greatest entertainer could only be surpassed by his untimely shocking death and the bizarre circumstances thereafter.More than two months after Jackson's astonishing death set the world at a standstill, and after the most elaborate funeral held at world class sporting venue and televised around the globe, the singer is expected to reach his final resting place at Forrest Lawn Memorial Park Sept. 3 in a private ceremony. The Los Angeles County Coroner officially declared the cause of death a homicide this week and Jackson's hired cardiologist Dr. Conrad Murray responsible for injecting him with a variety of anesthetics is expected to be criminally held responsible.Jackson would have turned 51 years old on Saturday Aug. 29, but during the finals hours of his life could not sleep and had a long history of suffering from insomnia. He performed his final rehearsal at the Staples center in preparation fro a 50-concert tour in London billed to be his last because he wanted his children to see him perform.Speculation has swirled since his death of addiction to prescription drugs including the powerful sedative propofol that was discovered in the autopsy.Dr. Murray reportedly told homicide investigators that he provided Jackson with a 10-milligram tab of Valium on June 25 at approximately 1:30 a.m., injections of two milligrams of lorazepam around 2 a.m., two milligrams of midazolam around 3.a.m. and repeats of each at 5 a.m. and 7:30 a.m.None of the dosages enabled the singer to go the sleep, according to the police report. Then at around 10:40 a.m., Murray administered 25 milligrams of propofol. Jackson was pronounced dead before 1p.m. at UCLA Medical Center on June 25.Some doubt that even had Jackson been alive this week that he would have been physically able to pull off the grueling concert schedule that was already sold out. The singer had a penchant for abruptly canceling shows in the past, but the thirst for his final curtain call was expected to erase a multimillions of debt that had began to mount in the wake of legal battles of child molestation charges that were never proven and another civil law suit that cost him roughly $25 million. His three children have since been under the guardianship of his doting mother Katherine Jackson amid rumors of who the biological father is.Mystical and mysterious in life and equally so.Had he lived, would he have sold the millions of record that ultimately erased his debt?Could he have escaped the scrutiny of the botched molestation charges?Would his adoring fans have been joined by some of his cynical critics in a celebration of his legacy?Massive record sales, unlimited demand for his memorabilia, a movie deal- all realities now. Would that have been possible had he lived?Questions that we will never get the answers to.Michael Jackson kept us guessing alive and his lasting legacy will only wet our appetite for more of the same.
